Connecticut State Police said that Groton resident Jose Vicente Noriega-Gonzalez, 38, was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 27, on a warrant for his role in the crash in Stonington on Dec. 16 last year that left two dead.
Noriega-Gonzalez has been charged with two counts of manslaughter with a motor vehicle, two counts of assault, reckless endangerment, driving the wrong way on a highway and illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence.
It is alleged that Noriega-Gonzalez was under the influence when he was involved in the head-on crash on I-95 in Stonington. The front seat passenger of his car, Eric Ramakers, 37, of Phoenix and the front seat passenger in the other vehicle, Lorna Valcin, 26, of Braintree, Massachusetts were pronounced dead at the scene.
Noriega-Gonzalez and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. Another passenger was also treated for life-threatening injuries.
Bond for Noriega-Gonzalez has been set at $1,500,000 and he is currently being held. He is scheduled to appear back in court on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
